frying pans

Not all frying pans are the same.

When choosing an aluminum frying pan, we consider everything from the non-stick coating to the material of the handle, but we often forget about the body.

Cast or stamped? Our buyers are often facing this difficult choice.

In the article we will consider the features of both types of pans.

How stamped pans are made?

Stamping is the easiest and the most budgetary way to get the basis of a frying pan. To do this, an aluminum sheet is passed through an industrial press. The device extrudes a three-dimensional shape in a flat base. In fact, this is a method when the body is obtained by its bending. For this reason, a stamped aluminum pan does not have very thick walls, nor a thick bottom. Too thick metal sheet simply doesn’t  bend. Subsequently, the bottom is reinforced with an additional layer of metal. It accelerates the heating of the container, increasing its resistance from heat deformation.

How cast pans are made?

Cast frying pan – one of a kind of evolution of aluminum braziers. People who usually cook realized that for some culinary operations a thicker pan is better. For example, for stewing – long-term temperature treatment of ingredients in their own juice or sauce, a thicker pan suits the best. Cast pans are produced using a more sophisticated technology: first, the metal is melted to a liquid state, then pans are poured into special molds. Cooled, grinded, covered with protection and only then combined with other parts of the pan.

How to distinguish stamped pans from cast pans in the store?

The method of production of the aluminum body of the pan is always indicated on the packaging description. You can also determine it by the thickness of the body and the weight. Stamped pans are thinner, almost weightless. These are made for quick cooking – for example, fried eggs, hot sandwiches, fried cheese and any other fast food. Cast pans are much heavier and thicker. With the help of cast pans you can cook meals that are more complex in terms of recipes and heat treatment.

Advantages of cast pans

  1. Both the thick body and bottom heat evenly.
  2. The aluminum base doesn’t deform from long-term cooking.
  3. The ferromagnetic insert makes the container compatible with all types of stoves.
  4. Durable non-stick coating allows to cook a wide variety of dishes.
  5. The ingredients can be fried, stewed and even baked in the oven.
  6. Meals obtain a delicious golden crust and keep its juice.
  7. The juice produced during cooking remains inside preventing meals from drying out.
  8. The case does not rust, as coating protects it from scratches and damage.
  9. Oven compatible
  10. Dishwasher compatible
  11. There are models with removable handles for a compact storage.

Overall, a cast thick-walled frying pan is a practical purchase. It can be used daily. It is good for meat, fish, chicken, vegetables, mushrooms, and cereal-based treats.
